What is a Rave Mom?
A “rave mom” is a nickname given to someone in your raving group who takes care of everyone in the group.
This often means making sure everyone is staying hydrated and has food, but can also include things like making sure people are not doing too many drugs, or that they have a place to stay if they need it.
The term “rave mom” is usually given to women, but men can be rave moms too! Anyone can be a rave mom, you just need to have a caring personality and be responsible.
Why are They Called Rave Moms?
The term “rave mom” is derived from the term “mommy,” which is another word for mother. The term “mommy” is often used in the rave community to describe someone who takes care of others, similar to how a mother would take care of her children.
The term “rave mom” specifically started being used in the early 2000s, when the rave scene in the United States was really taking off. At this time, there was a lot of drug use at raves, so the term “rave mom” was used to describe someone who would make sure everyone was staying safe and not doing too many drugs.
Signs that Someone is a Rave Mom
There are a few key signs that someone is a rave mom.
1. Asking Everyone If They Have Food or Water
Firstly, they are usually the ones who are always making sure everyone has water and food.
They might also be the ones who are carrying around extra water and snacks for people who forget to bring them.
2. Checking on the Wellbeing of People
Rave moms are also usually the ones who are checking in on people to make sure they’re doing okay, and they’re often the ones who are helping people if they need it.
For example, if someone is too drunk or high, a rave mom will be the one to help them get to a safe place.
3. Clean Up Crew
Finally, rave moms are usually the ones who are helping to clean up after the party is over. They might be the ones picking up trash, or making sure everyone gets home safely.
Are Rave Moms in Every Rave Group?
No, not every rave group has a rave mom. Some groups are small enough that everyone takes care of each other, or there might not be anyone in the group who is responsible enough to be a rave mom.
However, in most cases, there will always be at least one person in the group who takes on this role. And, in some cases, there might be multiple people who are considered to be rave moms.
So, if you’re ever at a rave and you see someone taking care of everyone else, make sure to thank them! They are the unsung heroes of the rave scene.
Rave Daddy vs Rave Mom
There is also another term that you might hear, which is “rave daddy.” This term is used to describe a man who takes care of everyone in the group, similar to how a rave mom would.
However, the term “rave daddy” is not as common as “rave mom.” This is likely because the vast majority of people who take on this role are women.
But, just like with rave moms, there can be multiple rave daddies in a group, or even just one. And, just like with rave moms, if you see someone taking care of everyone at a rave, make sure to thank them! They are the ones making sure everyone is safe and having a good time.

Starting with my first EDM event in 2010 at Nocturnal Wonderland and hearing One by Swedish House Mafia and Benny Bennassi’s “Satisfaction” I have been hooked on EDM. While Above&Beyond and Anjunabeats captured my heart in 2012, the genre I love the most is Hardstyle and I feel the most alive when listening to it. My favorite part about the EDM world is the energy that is packed into each genre fan base and event. Writing for Deep In The Mix gives me the opportunity to contribute back to the EDM world I love so much.
